Faces of Yunnan

A little side note on Yunnan before we head to Tiger Leaping Gorge.

I loved the architecture we got to see while in Yunnan.

From the decorative/protective cats on the rooftops around Lijiang, to the wonderfully rustic wood and stone farmhouses with tile roofs we passed during our walk through the Gorge, to the solid yet whimsical houses and temples around Zhongdian that looked like something straight out of a fairy tale, there was a lot to savor.

One detail was the provinces’ doors. In Zhongdian especially they were often painted in bright colors with beautiful Buddhist motifs. One thing that was common and consistently awesome throughout most the places we visited was the door knockers/handles. I loved them and ended up creating quite a collection on my camera. Check ‘em out!
